Crewe 10k (by David Hebb)

Hi Everyone ,

What would you do on a lovely initially slightly nippy Easter Sunday morning but the Crewe 10k (,previously South Cheshire 10k and Air Products 10k).

To be honest its not my favourite 10k but even so it is flat not like the normal NSRRA race which 90% have at least one nasty hill.

Thanks to the South Cheshire running club for organising and their enthusiastic Marshalling.

Well I was a bit late on Sunday arriving at 8.35 (for a 9.30 start) only to find the Car park was full and thus directed by a light blue top hatted marshall up the road to B&Q car park (5 min walk) which had a free 3 hr parking allowance ,should be plenty I thought, major issues if it wasn’t.

As B&Q is such a big building its not allowed to open on Easter Sunday so another bonus.

Off we trotted after meeting up with Paul,Lauren and Sara to get our numbers set out in the main hall at the Campus where we met more Bats.

Numbers on ,photos taken and off to the start .One thing I do hate on the race is the start and finish road as its very ‘gravelly’ (is that a word?).

Another chance for group piccies as we now had everyone probably a Bakers Dozen along with Jason in support

After a thank you to SCRC for arranging it by Ken Rushton, onto the RD who advised no road closures so ‘watch out for Traffic’ and stay safe.

The race starts and as usual people rush off to get a good position down to the roundabout and back upto the junction. I think Jordon of Stoke AC was halfway back up the road before I’d started.

Took a left at the top (past the 2nd lap water station) and left again into the industrial area (ooh nice cars) ,a long run crossing over and watching out for lorries, turn right past a bunch of cheering marshalls and down another drag , took a left and past a few patient drivers being held by us, Thanks Drivers!s..

A little dogleg and thin pavement down to the roundabout (3k) where our resident photographer Uncle Bryan Dale was sat taking our FREE photographs.

Take a left and off down a nice wide pavement which was fortunate as its a busy road, passing the 8km mark (2nd lap only boohoo!), needing a comfort break meant Sara got in front of me, how far away is that 4 k marker jeez ,passing it then wondering where the left turn into the trees is ,Im sure it was nearer before but then turn sharp left , ‘mind the bollard’ shouts the marshall whoops good job he said ,sharp right then a wavy route through the tree lined path, welcome as it was getting quite warm, out onto the side and a left onto the main road and towards the start of the 2nd lap stopped and picked up water (very ready) off we go again ,marshalls still giving cheers and Bryan still at the roundabout I guess my 2nd photograph didn’t look as good as the 1st lap as I was definately flagging kept swapping positions with Rob Sillito until he pulled away from me along with one or two others who had got their second wind ,I was on my fourth or fifth by then.

Emma passed me through the trees ( I distinctly told her not too haha) and then onto the side road along the main road and unfortunately It looks like Sally Aldridge took a fall but the first aiders were helping her ,hope shes okay! then left into the finish road, but the finish now is 200m past the start line which Im sure a few people didn’t realise after starting their finish sprint a little early, picked up a little speed to pass a guy only for him to catch me up on the line ,curses!

Picked up my tote bag , bottle of water and Malteaser EASTER EGG

Thank You SCRC for the suffering and splendid job done , see you next year

David
